Assalamualaikum and hai everyone. It has been a long time i’ve not updating this blog. So here I am!!!
Im gonna tell about the experience of mine participating in THE AWESOME MICROBES CARNIVAL!!. This is such a huge event handle by the microbiology department, and I am absolutely proud as being part of it. Im in charged for booth, we are selling kimbab which is the Korean food that associated with algae seaweed. Got to try one, absolutely delicious.
The awesome microbe carnival is one of the platform for people to get to know closely what is microorganism is actually about, this is such extremely beneficial carnival, apart from getting knowledge people can also buy food that associated with microorganism itself.
All of the team members is giving such a good cooperation together, but there is something that I wanna says, for first and second years students, they should react fastly when handling this kind of event, they always be in a group and managing their poster. And yeaaa I think they should consider to help us at the end of the ceremony, only third year and final year are left behind to settling everything for helping the logistic teams, they should consider our situation too.
But overall everything is fine and awesome, maybe they are new to this kind of event but for the future event i hope they can improvise more. This is such an enjoyable event for me, I love to interact with the guest that come to our carnival, and not to mention this event has brought us more closely with senior and junior and of course with the lecturers and staff too . it is  Such a great moment to work with all of microbiology family.

I love Microbiology family !! J

here are a bunch of photos :)

life without microbe

Hai everyone. Today im gonna talk about the big event that we have conducted which is life without microbe. Well, actually the original plan was like just make a video and a news paper and suddenly it turn out to be the big event. For me, this kind of activity is really beneficial for both side either for the high school students and also for us. This event actually helps to build up self confidence in ourselves and to see the capability of us on handling such a big event. I really enjoy myself while doing this event because i'be got the chance to be the MC for the activity. It is kind of a new experience where i've never be a MC before, so i tried to take up the challenge. I really like the idea where the high school come, and eventually we can introduce to them what is microbe actually is, and give them a big picture on what happens if these microbes are never been exist. They seem kind of interested in this field of study and I really proud to be a part of this big family. To be sum up, everyone gives such a good cooperation together and without any one of us this event will never be as successful and awesome as it can be. in this, i would like to thanks dr.wan because gives us such a good opportunity and believe in us for responsible to build up this event, although there are a lots of difficulties that we have been handling of, but it come out to be a such a beautiful event, it was like a methaphor where the caterpillar become the butterfly through hard times. and yeaaa I really love this kind of event, will be miss every moment with all of the team :)

food spoilage

hi, as for this week we are about discussing the food spoilage topics. kind of interesting topic because it is about fooddddd!! the interaction between us is havoc as usual, but this time it is more havoc as everyone was like excited discussing about food. the thing that I learn is that food spoilage is the pathogen that can cause the spoilage on the food, different from food-borne pathogen where the pathogen give infection to the human through the food. as I learn about the food spoilage my mind began to think, actually as microbiologist we contribute like a lot towards the human safety, because we are the one that should determine the safe food hazard. we are the one that know more deeply about the pathogen. so what that im trying to says is microbiologist is part of the earth's hero. hehe. and yeaaa im proud to be one of the microbiology family. and this week also we learn about the waste water, we learn about the process from the dirty water into the clean water that we can consume. All of this process involve  the participate of microorganism. and we have done quiz, and the presentation that was done by the group is awesome. i understand it well. and yeaa i really like to learn in this kind of environment. :)

for this week, we are about to finishing the human gut. the class as havoc as usual and because we kind of nervous for the next test so we are not as cheerful as usual, but the laughter is still there. so, im quite dissapointed for not doing the socrative earlier as some of the questions are in the test, overall, for this week and next week will be the tough day for me and whole the class. i guess this week and next is the most toughest week ever as we got too many assignment and test to be done. especially for the lab report. for this monday, i will try to keep focus in the class eventhough my mind is worrying about the test and all the assignments, but yeaa as a students that issomething that we should face it right? so i will try my harder to face this week and next week. gambateh ieja!! hahahaha . im sorry for not sharing anything this week, because lot of thing I've got to do. im sorry again. but forsure I'll updating more next week and this week. :)

human gut and thinglink.

Assalamualaikum and hai! as for this week, we are doing flipped classroom again on human gut. this topic is kind of interesting where I can get to know what is the microorganism that are pathogen or non-pathogen to our body. the group that responsible on doing the flipped classroom is doing the good job, they used all the tools to deliver the knowledge for us, not forgetting the atmosphere group also done a very good job as they are doing the powtoon, and I really thought that the video is from the internet as it is really excellent video. for me for this week, the class is happening as always, and I love to study in that kind of environment. but it is early in the morning, our brain is still in sleep mood. haha, but with the laughter and all the interaction between the lecturer and student makes me awake. and here, I'll attach the link to my thinglink, I have selected the photo that I have taken myself, It is at Cameron Highland, on the MARDI i guess. and yaaa have a look. :)

microorganisms in plant. (thinglink)

microbes in soil. (thinglink)

there are 3 types of bacteria found in soil. which are :
1) decomposer
- Bacillus subtilis.

  • Bacillus subtilis, known also as the hay bacillus or grass bacillus, is a Gram positive, found in soil and the gastrointestinal tract of ruminants and humans.B. subtilis is rod-shaped, and can form a tough, protective endospore, allowing it to tolerate extreme environmental conditions.
  • as an immunostimulatory aid in the treatment of gut and urinary tract diseases such as Rotavirus and Shigella
Pseudomonas fluorescens

  • P. fluorescens has multiple flagella. It has an extremely versatile metabolism, and can be found in the soil and in water
  • useful in treating skin, ear, and eye disorders

2) Nitrogen fixer.

  • The bacteria colonize plant cells within root nodules; here the bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia and then provide organic nitrogenous compounds such as glutamine or ureides to the plant. The plant provides the bacteria with organic compounds made by photosynthesis.
3)Actinomycetes

  • Actinomycetes are a specific group as bacteria.
  • Morphologically they resemble fungi because of their elongated cells that branch into filaments or hyphae
Some thermophilic and thermotolerant actinomycetes are found to be responsible for allergic symptoms in the respiratory tract

fungi.

Mycorrhizal fungi are a remarkable group of organisms that have been benefiting plants for at least 500 million years.
At the dawn of time when plants were just beginning to colonise our planet mycorrhizal fungi were there living in a symbiotic relationship with plants enabling them to extract nutrients and hold onto water in very difficult soil conditions.

microbes in freshwater (thinglink)

The two protozoa that mostly found in water are Giardia and Cryptosporidium
Giardia and Cryptosporidium form dormant and hardy forms called cysts during their life cycles. The cyst forms are resistant to chlorine, which is the most popular form of drinking water disinfection, and can pass through the filters used in many water treatments plants. If ingested in drinking water they can cause debilitating and prolonged diarrhea in humans, and can be life threatening to those people with impaired immune systems.

hydrosphere.

as for this week, it is for our turn to do the flipped classroom. we have done popplet, thinglink and cross word puzzle by kubbu. i have also already inserted the info regarding the hydrosphere topic to my blog. I think that, my classmate understand what we are trying to deliver. and I hope what that we have done, give benefits to them. for the next class, we have been given the quiz upon the hydrosphere topic. As a student, I understand that we should be able to answer the question given by the lecturer, but I just can't easily recall back what that I have learn, as I am a slow learner. but, I'm trying my best to answer all the question that were given.

for hydrosphere topic, I really enjoyed learn it, as I am put extra effort to dig in the info, to be shared to all of my classmate. actually, we have learned about the river and lake zonation in matriculation, but it is slightly different as, we learned about the microorganisms that live in it. oh by the way, im updating my blog at my kampung, Perak!! so the connection is like too slow, and for sure I'll enjoying the view here. ;)

lithosphere

lithosphere, is one of the most abundance living thing live in it. including us human. so for this week we learn about the lithosphere. and the most interesting thing is, we do it like flipped classroom. from my opinion, through this kind of learning, it give so much benefits as the one that conducted the flipped classroom is the student itself, so for sure the one that conduct it will understand more. for us, who are participating in it we got to learn new thing, like voice thread that has been conducted by the group 4. they did such a good job together.

and yea for sure, we have done popplet to do the research on microorganism that live in the bedrock(cave). because, i think that is the most suitable medium for me and other team members to do work together.

interaction

so for this week class, we are discussing about the interaction of microorganism in term of environment and between microorganism itself. I found that, this topic is quite interesting as we can know what microorganism can do to the others. there are commensalism, parasitism and mutualism and not also forgetting prey-predator. but what I like the most is mutualism as I really enjoyed reading journal or anything that shows the benefit of microorganism towards our society like, norma flora in human guts, without them, how come we can live peacefully. jyeah!
not forgetting I also like the mutualism interaction as I can know which microorganism that harmful to us, and what are the disease that they can give to us. so for the activity, we do the padlet. i found that, we often use padlet, what can I say is, padlet is useful in sharing what we have found. so the others people can also see it. to be sum up, this week I am more focusing on doing our flipped class. and hoping for the best on the next class.

this is the simple picture referring to the microbial interaction in plant.

microbial nutrition and metabolism| Distrubution Of Microbe.

So as for this week, we are finishing the Microbial Nutrition and Metabolism. there are lots of thing to be remind because this topic we have learn before. so the activity that we have done in this week, is crossword puzzle. I've got 98% from that crossword, kind of interesting activity to do. and yeaa of course, we do lots of discussing in the class, where Dr. Wan interacts with us a lot and there is some moment where everyone was like blur and quite for a while because.... because of doesn't know the answer for sure. haha. it is not we don't know but somehow we just can't describe it in the right way. and of course the evening class was like so gloom, our energy has been depleted haha, but don't worry, we always have energy for something that fascinating us.

for this upcoming thursday, we have the first test and I hope everyone will gets excellent marks. but, we've got lots of thing to do lately, kind of busy. but for sure we have to face it up because that is what students should be doing right? ohh before I forget, we also finishing the distribution of microbe, where we learn where is the places that have abundance amount of microbe, like ocean, soil, pond and atmosphere, lots more of course. there are different type of microorganism like, psychrophile, mixotroph, barophile, piezophile and lots more. apart from that, the water activity also vary depend on the microorganism, I would like to add something where mutation in food-borne pathogen are from water activity. we know that bacteria need higher water activity rather than fungi, but when water activity is low, then the bacteria try to adapt with that condition and after that they will change their diet, this will cause mutation. This is what that I learn in food microbiology class. just tryin to add :)
for me, nutrition is more easier to be understand rather than metabolism, where we have to learn the glycolysis and various others pathway. we have learned it in physiological microbe in sem 3 but still there is something wrong with it. it is not that I don't understand but, more to facing up the difficulties in trying to memorize all those mechanism and all the enzymes. but, I will always try to facing off those problems. overall, till this week, I've got the flow of this study. and for sure I'll update more ;)

So this part, I'll update on today class. Today, we have test 1. so far so good. and after the test we discussing about the POBL. Our project on live without microbes. Dr. Wan gives us more details on how we should conduct our work. so, everything will be much more easier. surprisingly, our project will be see by others people, kind of promoting microbes, sort of... so, we have to give our best on doing this project. InsyaAllah ;) so, to sum up this week journal so here is the video and some pictures to be viewed . enjoy!

Since we learned about nutrition, so here is video how bacteria eats. kind of interesting huh?

Microbial Group.

So as for this week, I have learned about the microbial group in microbial ecological, which consists of prokaryote, eukaryotes and viruses. actually, this topics have been cover up in microbiology 1, but as a student and normal human, we are easily forget, so do I. I've got to read back all the notes before, to recall back all the input. So in order to do that, I have decided to use mind mapping and all others method to prepared for the next lecture. So, here is the mind map, and I have highlight the key words in lecture notes, so it will be easier for me to do a revision for the next time.

For class activity, we have done popplet. where we have to recall back what we have study before on microbial group. This popplet is sort of mind mapping but we can invite the others member to join in with us. It is quite awesome to get to learn new tools in learning, besides that I really like the Popplet because it give so much fun to study

I would like to share this video to all of the readers, so basically this video is showing us a better magnified video for fungi, it is really awesome and beautiful. makes me amazed for a while.

For the next video, showing that the ecological role of protozoa in water purification, it shows us on how protozoa traps bacteria size of particle in ecological purification system to make safe drinking water.

Principle of Microbial ecology

For the first topic in Microbial Ecology, we learned the principle first. What that I have learned from this topic are, the environment where the microorganism lives as their habitat, and the interaction between the microorganism and the environment and  within the microorganism itself. For a better understanding upon this topic, I have search some article and journal also google a little bit about microbial ecology. Later on, we have been divided into a group of 6 and discussing among ourselves about the best journal describing the principle of microbial ecology. We have choose Yana's journal as our reference, and I have found that, we can relate the article to produce a better understanding on principle of microbial ecology

Here is the discussion that we have done on padlet

This is the article that we have chose

This is our group discussion on the above article. Here is the tittle that we are going to do on our "Life Without Microbes"
